Dear Future Kitten…
Somewhere, one day, you'll open your eyes for the very first time.
We hope the first thing you see...
is safety.
We hope your tiny paws never have to learn what hunger feels like.
We hope your first bed is a warm blanket.
Not beneath a shed.
Not the engine compartment of a parked car.
Not beneath a porch where no one knows you're there.
We hope someone hears your first tiny meow because they were already waiting for you.
We hope your life is filled with sunny windows.
Cardboard boxes you prefer over the expensive toys someone bought you.
Impossible naps in impossible positions.
The sound of someone laughing when you sprint through the house for absolutely no reason.
We hope you discover that countertops are apparently "off limits" and spend the rest of your life pretending you don't understand what that means.
We hope you grow old believing every lap was made just for you.
We hope you never know what it feels like to be cold.
We hope you never have to search for your next meal.
We hope you never have litter after litter because no one was able to get you spayed.
We hope you never have to protect your babies outdoors while trying to survive yourself.
We hope you never become someone's "free kitten" given away to whoever happens to answer an ad.
We hope you are wanted.
Planned for.
Prepared for.
Loved.
Because that's the life every kitten deserves.
Unfortunately...
not every kitten gets that story.
Every year, kittens are born beneath porches, in barns, behind businesses, in abandoned buildings, and in neighborhoods where no one even realized an unspayed cat was living nearby.
But they're also born in bedrooms, closets, laundry rooms, and living rooms because beloved house cats weren't spayed or neutered in time.
Sometimes it was intentional. Sometimes someone thought there was more time. Sometimes an indoor cat slipped outside just once. And sometimes two unaltered cats living in the same home did exactly what nature intended them to do.
However it happens, the result is the same: more kittens needing homes in a world where there are already more kittens than homes waiting for them.
Some will be found.
Some will enter shelters or rescues.
Some will be cared for by dedicated community cat volunteers.
Some will find wonderful homes.
And some will never get that chance.
That isn't because kittens aren't loved.
Few things can melt a heart faster than a tiny kitten.
The problem is that there are simply more kittens being born than there are homes ready and waiting for them.
And that's why PennyFix exists.
We don't work against kittens.
We work for them.
Every spay or neuter surgery we help fund is another step toward a future where fewer kittens are born simply because another litter wasn't prevented.
A future where shelters and rescues aren't overwhelmed every spring with kittens needing somewhere to go.
A future where community cats don't have to produce litter after litter just to continue the cycle.
A future where the kittens who are born have a better chance of beginning life exactly the way we've wished for you.
Safe.
Wanted.
Prepared for.
Loved from the very beginning.
So, Dear Future Kitten...
We hope we never meet you in a shelter.
We hope we never see your tiny face in a cardboard box beside the road.
We hope we never hear someone say,
"I found these kittens... can anyone help?"
Instead...
We hope you're exactly where you belong.
Curled up in a sunny window.
Purring in someone's lap.
Growing old in a home that has loved you since the very beginning.
Because if that's your story...
Then we've all done something right.
Our next letter is already waiting to be written.
Dear Future Shelter...
